“Mi Product Brief” Unboxing a Xiaomi Piston Earphone in the Fresh Style

Ever since Xiaomi released these earphones, I had wanted to buy them. Recently, the earphones I had been using happened to break, so I ordered them without hesitation. Since buying directly from the Xiaomi Mall requires 10 RMB in shipping fees, I, being extremely stingy, naturally chose Suning.com instead. The final price was only 31.9 RMB, while purchasing directly from the official website would have cost 39.9 RMB.

I have to say, Suning.com’s own delivery service is genuinely fast. I bought them the night before last, and by noon yesterday I had already received a call from the delivery person (the next-day delivery was right on time). Unfortunately, I wasn’t home and couldn’t receive the package, so I didn’t get it until this morning. The Suning Express packaging was excellent and undamaged, so the delivery service deserves a positive review for that alone.

There was also something inside the delivery box that I don’t know what to do with. It even told me not to squeeze it. Suning is really amusing.

There are several noteworthy details inside: one is that the cable of these earphones is 1.25 meters long. After using them for a while, I feel that this cable length is very suitable for everyday use. I haven’t encountered the awkward situation of the cable being too short, as with my old earphones, nor has the cable being too long caused any inconvenience. Another relatively novel detail is that the side also includes configuration instructions in Traditional Chinese, although I have never heard anything about Xiaomi’s situation in the Taiwanese market.

Earphone information

After opening the box, it contained a warranty certificate, the earphones themselves, and earphone accessories. The accessories include two sizes in total, so people with different ear canal sizes can replace them according to their individual needs.

Earphone accessories

Looking closely at the earphones themselves, Xiaomi has upgraded the earphone housings this time. The new aluminum-alloy shell replaces the original plastic material. Using metal improves the overall feel while also increasing the earphones’ overall weight. Still, adopting this kind of craftsmanship in a product costing 29 yuan is worthy of praise. Another improvement over my previous model is that these earphones incorporate more ergonomic design. I have to say that this design brings a tremendous improvement in sound isolation and wearing comfort compared with the first-generation Piston earphones.

Finally, let me briefly talk about my personal impressions of their sound quality. First of all, for people who have not used high-end earphones for extended periods, the sound quality is already sufficient. Overall, the sound lacks a strong sense of layering, and there is also some loss of detail.

I’ll also offer some purchasing advice: if there is a Xiaomi Home nearby or you are adding them to a larger order, I still recommend buying them at this price (I don’t recommend online purchases, since the 10 RMB shipping fee makes them more expensive). They are completely adequate for taking out during the day to relieve travel fatigue. These are merely my personal and somewhat humble opinions.
