Last night, around midnight, my manager sent me a message on WeChat saying that there were still some issues with the layout of the Shopify independent site. I had just lain down and was getting ready to sleep, so I simply didn’t reply, thinking I would respond the next morning.

The first thing I did when I arrived at the office in the morning was solve the issue and then report the result to my manager. Who would have thought that I would instead get criticized by him, with him saying that doing it this way was meaningless and that frontend developers should have some awareness.

I also don’t know what he meant by that. It caused me a lot of mental stress for a long time. As expected, working at a private company is troublesome—you always have to guess what your manager is thinking, while the things your manager wants are never explained clearly.

This morning, while using Copilot to write code, I kept getting the error 「Sorry, your request was rate-limited」. There was nothing I could do, so I had to use OpenCode Go to fill in for it temporarily. Unfortunately, GLM-5 still wasn’t quite up to the task.

I looked through GitHub’s official documentation and found that upgrading the Copilot plan seemed to resolve this rate-limit issue. Could it be that the restriction was because I’m using the student-benefits plan?

What was bound to happen has finally happened. I took this opportunity to see whether I could pay for the genuine version. Since I don’t have a Visa or Mastercard, I could only try PayPal’s character-based method, and the debit card bound to my PayPal account is from the Bank of China.

Unexpectedly, everything went so smoothly. The payment went through directly without any restrictions at all. It was nowhere near as difficult as I had imagined, and there was no failure or rejection caused by the UnionPay card from mainland China.

As for why I only paid $8, it’s because my plan started being billed from the 20th, which means I only needed to pay for the period up to April 20. Converted, that comes to around eight dollars. However, the RMB exchange rate for UnionPay payments is over seven yuan to the dollar, so there is still a bit of a premium.

Finally, after Opus left last time, I once again brought my best employee back through official channels. However, I don’t have much of my advanced-request quota left for this month, so I’ll have to use it sparingly for the next few days.

So for now, I’ll stop using Opus 4.6 and use Sonnet 4.6 as a substitute. There happened to be a bug that I had asked GPT-5.4 mini about several times without successfully solving it, while Sonnet 4.6 solved it in one go. Sure enough, the cheap option is the most expensive one.
